Is It Alright To Get Mad?
Eph 4:25-27
“Be angry, and do not sin”: do not let the sun go down on your wrath, nor give place to the devil. NKJV
Praise the Name of Jesus the Messiah! We are created in God’s image according to Genesis. We laugh, God laughs. We get sad, God gets sad for those who don’t chose to have life in Him. We rejoice when something especially good happens. God rejoices when people believe in Him and He loves to bless His people with good things. God gets angry, and we too sometimes get angry but we have to be very careful because we are lacking in the
God is a god of emotions and we are created in His image. If you don’t have emotions, then you are probably not human. However, enjoying your God-given emotions and being overly emotional are two different things. God said, it is okay to be angry once in a while, but we should not sin. What does that mean?
In general, anger is a very self-centered emotion. When most people are angry, it is because they didn’t get what they wanted. That seat on the train, a rude-response to a question, the attention they wanted from someone else… There are many reasons why we see anger in our lives and the lives of others. Most of the time, it is unjustified. What are the Biblical guidelines?
It is okay to be angry occasionally but according to the book of Ephesians;
1) Do not do anything rash or wrong. Always do the right thing.
2) Do not stew (think about too much, meditate) on the anger. Limit it to one day.
3) Do not let your anger cross the line and become the root of evil actions.
4) If the person you have gotten angry at has actually done something wrong against you, accept their apology. Forgive and forget, then move on just as God never brings up our faults to us once we’ve confessed our sins to him (1 John 1:8,9).
What does the sunset have to do with anger? If we get angry about something we should deal with it and make the right choices. Getting angry is no excuse to hurt someone physically or verbally. Our moms told us as children that ‘if you cannot say something nice, don’t say anything at all’. That is a good rule to follow in our daily lives.
Frankly though, you sometimes have to show your anger if you are responsible for others. If you are the boss at a company, and you catch someone treating other employees with extreme disrespect, then you may have to show them that type of thing will not be accepted. No one should not continue to stew on that anger for days and days in any situation. It will eat you up. You should deal with the situation as wrongs need to be righted. But don’t spend a lot of your thought life on it.
Enjoy yourself! Enjoy the ecstatic joy God gives, the total peace, the tears when someone goes to be with God, the excitement about getting married, the joy of a newborn baby…there are so many great things to life. Enjoy the YOU God made you like. But live according to the guidelines in God’s Word and you will never be disappointed.
